The WHATIFTHEWORLD x KRONE Artist Residency is located on the historic Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate in Tulbagh, South Africa. Each year, up to six artists are invited to participate in this program. The residency is designed to be flexible, focusing on specific outcomes tailored to each participant, whether in the form of research—practical or theoretical—site-specific projects, or exhibitions. The residency has hosted visual and performance artists, musicians, chefs, writers, and curators. Its primary goal is to explore diverse creative practices.

Current Artist-in-Residence: Pierre Vermeulen

Pierre Vermeulen’s creative process blends meditation, ritual, and the exploration of archetypes and symbols. He draws inspiration from both ancient and modern influences, including mystical spirituality. Vermeulen reflects on the idea of divine presence and the intersection of the sacred and profane, using materials like ex-voto casts, sweat, and gold and silver leaf to embody these themes.
