Tangeni Kambudu (b. 1987) is an artist from Namibia currently based in Cape Town. His series of carefully etched mirrors engages the viewer at various points to evoke themes of self-reflection and disembodiment. Rather than imparting themselves, these sculptural works are attentive to subtle fluctuations of identity and emotion.
In 2019, Kambudu’s work was selected for an exhibition at the Visual Arts Festival Zanzibar, including Sasol’s New Signatures competition, the Swiss Art Expo in Zurich, and Forward? Forward! Forward… at the Stellenbosch University Museum. A former fashion designer, Kambudu also presented his first solo body of work at the Association for Visual Arts in Cape Town in 2022.
Select solo exhibitions and presentations include Condescending (2024), Untitled 9178 (2022), Seeds of the Fig (2022) at WHATIFTHEWORLD Gallery, Cape Town, and 40 under 40 (2021) at the Krone x WHATIFTHEWORLD gallery located on the Twee Jonge Gezellen Wine Estate in Tulbagh, South Africa. Kambudu has also exhibited work at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair and Art Joburg, South Africa.
