Nocturnes by Michael Taylor

31 Aug - 22 Sept 2007

OPENING: FRIDAY 31 AUG 2007 18h30

Whatiftheworld / Gallery 208 Albert Rd. Woodstock

The second solo exhibition by up-and-coming young artist and illustrator Michael Taylor. Titled Nocturnes, Michael Taylor draws on his continuing theme of ‘nonsense’ to create small-scale paintings telling nocturnal stories. Not following a specific storyline, the pictures individually elucidate a happening around the hours of either twilight, midnight or dawn. Each work’s title will function as a catalyst and entry point to every narrative, but not necessarily a label describing the subject matter – the title must function as a parallel narrative to what its picture represents. This is the outset for the exhibition: to create a body of work that poses to illustrate a single narrative, but in fact it creates multiple sequences and moods for disparate occurrences – a harmonised mismatch of bits of night-nonsense.
