New Works by Cameron Platter
Currently preparing for an exhibition of video works at Art Basel Miami, and working towards a solo show at Whatiftheworld next
year. Cameron Platter’s work creates an intoxicating vision of urban contemporary Africa. Drawing on traditional craft and wood carving techniques, Platter combines contemporary African street culture using influences as diverse as Nigerian ‘porno’ films, township couture, and drunken shabeen meat fests. Using established and respected traditional mediums, Platter creates a tableau that is at once a sincere homage to historical themes and an ironical take on contemporary Africa.
Please see below a selection of new large-scale drawings photographed in his studio, as well as some images of the new video work, accompanied by a limited edition box set containing 68 prints of stills from the video and a unique sculptural work.
